Becky Blades

Becky Blades tries on artistic mediums the way some people try on shoes. In fact, she tried making art out of shoes once.

With hours stolen from her public relations and marketing career the past 25 years, Becky has explored artistic media ranging from painting and drawing to weaving and welding. She has focused for the past several years on mixed media images on paper and canvas.

Becky studied art and photography at the University of Missouri while majoring in journalism. In the 1990’s, she studied sculpture at the Kansas City Art Institute, and she has studied painting and printmaking there part-time from 2004 to the present.

In the summer of 2000, Becky took a sabbatical to travel with her family to Paris and southern France. There, she studied architectural watercolor and still-life painting with South African artist Ray Johnstone. She returns to France annually to study with Ray Johnstone and to seek materials and inspiration for her mixed media work.
