Theresa Ruby is an artist. She is also the CEO of GlobalHouse, a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation (http://www.globalhouse.org) . The mission of GlobalHouse is to help people live better, fuller lives and to make positive social change. The way GlobalHouse accomplishes this mission in through a new interpretation of the human experience, called—Potentialism. Proceeds from the sale of all art go to support the GlobalHouse nonprofit mission.
GlobalHouse works with individuals, organizations and nations to help people reach more of their potential. Lasting positive change requires support—both at individual and systemic levels. GlobalHouse helps provide this support, which is grounded in behavioral science. It recognizes we all need far more positive support and encouragement to grow and develop. GlobalHouse works with people all over the world from leaders in American corporations to people living in desperate conditions in developing countries.
GlobalHouse is currently working in Nepal with a GlobalHouse Nepal branch. GlobalHouse was invited to Nepal to lay the groundwork for peace after a civil war that killed more than 15,000 people. After reading the first few books of the Potentialism series (http://www.globalhouse.org/publishing), a professor in Nepal thought Potentialism could help bring an end to the civil war.
After several months of working with the top political leaders in Nepal, including the leader of the Maoist rebels that still maintained 19,000 heavily armed soldiers in 27 camps around the mountainous nation, the rebels agreed to lay down their arms. GlobalHouse served as a catalyst in this process and now continues to work with top leaders in Nepal. Today, the Nepalese leaders are working to implement the new socio-economic model of Potentialism to fast track their country’s development in an environmentally sensitive and sustainable way.
Theresa takes extensive photos during her travels. She then transforms selected images into photo paintings using a variety of techniques and mixed media to bring out the unique potential of each subject. In her work, Theresa celebrates the many faces, places and potential of our world. She hopes to inspire others ~ to recognize our commonalities, to come together, and to reach more of our collective potential.
The “Colors of Humanity ~ Nepal” series is from the beautiful and mysterious country of Nepal: the birthplace of the Buddha, the location of Mount Everest, and the home of one of the world’s newest democracies.
