Michelle Gordon
Showroom
Michelle Gordon was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri, next door to the amazing artists Lou Marak and Philomene Bennett. From a young age, Gordon was mesmerized by this world of paint she was exposed to and pained from then on.
After being accepted to the Ecole des Beaux -Art in Avignon, France, Gordon definitively made the choice not to study art formally and instead earned a Master’s degree in literature and foreign language from the University of Oregon and the Sorbonne University. Painting all the while, in 2003 her first show sold out and marked the beginning of her professional career as an artist.
The process of Gordon’s work is as important as
work itself. Through layers of accrued oil paint, windows are delicately and gradually created. These windows are intended to engage the imagination and lead us to new and unexplored parts of ourselves. The magic behind Gordon’s work is its dialogue with the viewer.
Subjects are left open-ended intentionally to include the viewer in the experience of the art. Gordon’s work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally. Most recently, her work was selected to show at in the 2007 Venice Biennale. She is currently living in Chicago and frequently returns to her hometown where she finds “solace in the soil of inspiration.”
