Born in Meeker, Oklahoma, Lou Marak attended the University of Oklahoma, then after a stint in the army returned to the Kansas City Art Institute, where he graduated in 1958.
Marak worked at Hallmark Cards after graduation, then went freelance and worked for Hallmark and painted for the next thirty-five years. His commercial work can be found in many publications and his extensive exhibitions have included the Mulvane Museum, Washburn University, Topeka, KS., Kansas City Artists Coalition, Kansas City ,MO, and one man and group shows at the Jayne Gallery, Hallar Gallery and the Late Show Gallery in Kansas City MO, collections include Hallmark, Kansas City ,Mushnic Art Museum ,Atchison KS.

Marak has done many portrait commissions from private collectors and a large eleven by eight foot corpus charcoal drawing commissioned by the St Charles Church, Kansas City North and mayor H.Roe Bartle exhibited now at the Bartle Convention Center,Kansas City, MO.
