“I don’t recall ever saying ‘I want to be an artist,’ but over the years I’ve come to realize that is what I am,” says Diana Werts.

“To create a visual image in response to an experience, emotion or thought seems to complete my connection with the world. Here in the Midwest, subtle nuances found in everyday life, from the light on prairie grasses in the fall to a sunset in the Smoky Hills, provides fuel for fertile artistic thought.”

Diana Werts has been making art for over twenty years, pursuing a professional path in both the production and the teaching of art.

After five years of teaching middle school, she decided to get a master’s degree in painting. Still wishing to teach, she found artist-in-residence work throughout Kansas and Missouri that would allow her to share her passion for art with folks both young and old while maintaining an active studio schedule.

Her work reflects her strong background in abstraction and composition, which is complimented by a spontaneous painterly style reminiscent of early Contemporary American Realists. She lives in Fairway, Kansas, in the Kansas City metro area.
