Born in Illinois, Babe Atha has lived in Kansas City all of her adult years. Her art history major was completed at the University Of Arizona, after attending the University of Kansas.
Atha has studied at the Kansas City Art Institute with Frank Szasz, Mary Howell, Philomene Bennett and Lou Marak. She worked with Vladan Stiha in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Sergiei Bongari in Rexburg, Idaho.
She uses acrylic paint on canvas as the medium for her paintings. Her impressionistic style and informal, spontaneous elements result in a strong sense of life and movement. Her treatment of color moves from deep, rich tones of the Southwest to fresh floral reminiscent of a country garden.
She expresses clarity and dignity in the beauty of simplicity.
“I enjoy the power and excitement of the brush, the way the paint moves on the canvas to create form of essence of flower. Simplicity over confusion.”
Atha’s works are displayed in many residence and corporations all over the United States and Canada.
In Kansas City, her work was commissioned by St. Luke’s Hospital, Menorah Hospital, Shadow Glen, Indian Hills Golf Clubs, Garrozzo’s Inc., Trumpets restaurant in Leawood and many others.
